Acquired long QTs

Hi. I recently posted here about low heart rate, but ecg shows prolonged QTs. I recently had a couple of near fainting experiences and GP says I must stop any meds until next ecg to find out if it goes away. He also says I must not exercise for now I love swimming and walk every day.If next ecg the same I am to be referred to cardiologist.Would love your views on whether I can still do a 30 minute walk each day at the very least. Am 65 years old.

Should I be worried?

Things to think about -

are you used to doing such a walk? Is it well within your previous capacity? Would you split 15 mins morning, 15 afternoon? Would you be accompanied?

Yes I always walk which if I had to stop would make me very depressed. Its just that after long brisk walk on couple of occasions have felt like passing out, hence visit to doctor and subsequent ecg.Thing is I also liked swimming and occasional gym session.

Cross trainer weights etc.

I am still walking but anxious now.

I wouldn’t be worried because worry is a useless emotion. It doesn’t resolve anything - it just holds your brain to ransom.

Long QT is normal for a low heart rate and a low heart rate is pretty common with some cardiac meds. Why were you on the meds?

I'm not sure why your doctor said to not exercise with a low heart rate but they must have had a reason so I’d do as your doctor says until they know more about what is going on.

Thanks for your reply. The meds weren't heart meds but antihistamines, PPIs ,steroid sprays etc .Just to see if these were the cause. I will have another ecg in a month to look for change. If no change then will have to see cardiologist. Yes I can and do walk all the time every day. But have stopped swimming and occasional gym. As had felt like I was passing out when finishing any brisk walking .
