Hello first time on here and found it so useful reading all the posts, diagnosed with permanent afib 6 weeks ago and on 6.25mg bisoprolol which is not agreeing with me at all but will persevere for a while longer, my question is I have been told that a cardioversion would be advised but has anyone had permanent success with this? They seem to last for a while and then afib returns as I suffer from acute anxiety already I am wondering if I can put myself through this if there is a low degree of success, so any info would be very much appreciated. Thanks

Hi i am not a medic, just a layperson with experience of AF, of cardioversions, and ablations.Cardioversions can last for some people I believe. Others may contribute on that front. I only ever managed about 24 to 48 hours of normal rhythm afterwards, but I'd had AF for nearly 20 years before they tried. So, it was a long shot.

Mostly, in the UK, they seem to be used to either get someone out of a dangerous, rapid heart rate (emergency dccv) or are used to "trest" if someone can achieve normal sinus rhythm (even for a short period) to give information to the cardiologist and electrophysiologist as to whether an ablation might be successful.Ablations are also not a cure and many people will revert back to AF at some point but they can provide welcome respite, a d usually for a longer period. I have had AF since my late 20s and since my third ablation, I have been AF free for 15 months. I am also now out of heart failure as a result so I'd have another in a heartbeat (pardon the pun) if and when I need one, which I've discussed with my electrophysiologist. I am 49 so I need to think short and long term benefits. It's not just quality of life as is often quoted it is also protecting myself against the life limiting impact of heart failure and stroke risk. My EP and cardiologist agree.

Hope this is useful.

Hi sorry about your situation,I was told by cardiologist when also diagnosed with permanent af that you can only be that if have had over a year and have tried everything going to reverse it,so you are just in af, the drs know what they are doing nd have been doing this procedure for many years so you have to trust them

By the way, I couldn't even tolerate 1.25 mg of bisoprolol. Made me very unwell...breathless, dizzy, tired etc. It is known to cause issues for many.

Please try high dose of Ubiquinol which is necessary for every muscle and cell in your body with your heart the largest muscle. A highly regarded Cardiologist informed me with every new patient he consults with he places them on this supplement.
