SVT after ablation

HelloI've suffered from SVT since 2020 , and finally had an ablation around 6 weeks ago. But I've since had 2 more SVT episodes with heart rate over 200bpm !

Has this happened to anyone else? I'm a bit disappointed that the ablation hasn't done the trick 😕.

I believe after an ablation it's not unusual to continue having arrythimias for a short time. My husband had an ablation for VT's, the day after the op his ICD shocked him twice!! Then about a month or so after the ablation he was readmitted to hospital for 2 weeks, his hospital records show he was having VT's, AF & SVT's!! However since that last hospital admission he's not had any VT's since last year.

Don't give up hope yet, it might just take time for your heart to settle down as the ablation really irritates your heart.

Are you a member of Atrial Fibrillation Support on HU.You will receive a lot more answers about aFib , SVTs and ablations on that forum because it's specifically for aFib and cardiac arrhythmias you will get some people on BHF , like myself whom have these too but this group is more mixed so answers may be slower . Many people with aFib have also experienced SVT issues or have done so it's worth being a member and posting on both groups to get a bigger variety if answers.

Basically you need to get back in touch with the EP or Cardiologist department that did your ablation to let them know that the ablation does not appear to have done the job.

Your specialist needs to be informed and they will also give you advice about your medication and what to do next to help. This can be done over the phone with a call to the secretary of your specialist ( if you don't know the number just ring hospital reception and ask to speak to the secretary of Dr.xxxxx).

Sometimes there can be a settling in period so you can have a few episodes of symptoms and yoyoing before your rhythm finally settles into it's correct pattern. It can be scary when this happens or if you are still getting tired and breathless during this time.

Sometimes an Ablation doesn't work or doesn't work for long , some people can require a number of ablations before it's successful. Some people can have an Ablation and find it works for a number of years but then require another. Some people just don't have success with Ablations and require other treatment options or in certain cases long term options which isn't the end of the earth as they still control their condition with medication and self care techniques, like pacing their daily activity long term and still live as long as others with the right precautions to prevent other risks and have a great quality of life.

I’ve heard it can take 3 months for the heart to heal and you might still get some issues until the scarring has healed. I would consult your EP for advice. I’m having an ablation for SVT next month.
