AR and TR on Doppler

hello.

I had three heart tests recently. ECG and 7-day monitor were ‘unremarkable’. The echo was normal with mild AR and TR on Doppler. I looked it up. AR = aortic regurgitation. TR = tricuspid regurgitation. This from a letter to my GP. Does anyone know what this means? Should I be worried? Regurgitation sounds scary. I have 2 stents in cardiac arteries.

I don’t know if he’s going to send me an appointment.

Thanks so much!!

Regurgitation means that the 2 valves are not completely effectively closing, hence allowing a small quantity of blood back in the chamber(s) between beats. If it's currently classed as 'mild' it's probably nothing to be unduly concerned about, but I'd hope they will want to keep you under periodic review to check that it's not progressing (probably over some years) to 'moderate' or 'severe', when treatment might be necessary. I'd definitely check with your GP/cardiologist, however, for your reassurance & to make sure you remain 'on their radar'!

I had a replacement Aortic valve 2 yrs ago, due to severe 'aortic stenosis' (AS), which is where the valve gets calcified & restricts the blood flow from the heart. I've since had annual echocardiograms to monitor the replacement valve's condition, which remains fine. The scans do also look at the other heart valves & in my case the most recent scan indicates 'mild regurgitation' of the Mitral & Tricuspid valves. My cardiologist does not seem concerned about this at this stage.

The letter said ‘very mild’. Part of the reason for the tests was to find out why I faint sometimes. Could this be why? I was referred to this cardio by the guy who treated me when I had my nstemi - long story why - I hope he is going to see me again as he originally said. I’ve been discharged from the original hospital. I find it scary that follow-ups aren’t offered as routine. We shall see.
