I had my AVR on 28th May. I was in hospital for nearly 7 weeks beforehand and my sleep patterns were severely disrupted. I came home the day after the operation, quite late in the afternoon.
That night I slept quite well, the most sleep I'd had for weeks, but since then I've had problems. I've always been a morning person so it's not unusual for me to be eating breakfast by 6 a.m. but by 1 o'clock I'm often fighting to keep awake. If I put the TV News on at 1, I'm asleep by 1:30 and may well sleep until 5. The first time that happened I thought to myself that I wouldn't be able to sleep in the night but by 8 o'clock I was struggling to stay awake again. When I went to bed, however, I couldn't sleep.
This pattern has become quite frequent and very annoying. Like you I'm sometimes still awake at 4 a.m.
The only thing that works for me, when I go to bed, is to listen to an audio book. I find history books work the best. I set my device to either the end of the chapter or 30/40 minutes and more often than not, I'm asleep before it finishes. I have the loudspeaker set to a volume where I can only just hear it clearly. I still wake up three or four hours later but then repeat the process.
I'm wondering if it's the Bisoprolol I'm taking that's causing the sleep problems. I have a consultation with the surgeon on Tuesday and I'll take the matter up then.
It could mean your fully energised? Sleep disruption follows in almost all post operation cases.
