I've just turned 62 and decided as a birthday treat I would have a blue crest health check. My Stats were mainly good with the exception of a red marker for afib. I wasn't even sure what this was exactly but now am finding out as a new patient. I'm on Bisoprolol and apixiban and have been waiting for 2 months[so far] to see a cardiologist. I have a referral but not even an appointment date. My AF is persistent and I'm hoping to get my heart back to sinus rhythm. Knowing that the longer you have persistent AF the harder it is to reverse worries me alot. I was wondering about going private but it's expensive and I don't really have the money. Has anyone had similar or could advise.

Hello :-)

Some Birthday treat it turned out to be but better to know and get on the right treatment

Regretfully waiting times are not good at the moment but you could let the Hospital know where you have been referred to that you would like to go on their cancellation list as well as quite a lot people can cancel and that can speed things up sometimes

You would have to enquire about how much it would cost to go private others that have will see your post and give you a rough idea how much it cost them if they did go private

Hope you get sorted soon and let us know how you get on :-) x

Thanks so much for replying. I would definitely be up for a cancelation. At the moment I've had ECG with ultrasound and am awaiting the results. Having this AF persistently worries me. If I go private would they repeat the tests I've already had so I'm wondering if the situation would be any quicker? Thanks again. x

Hello :-)

I am not sure if they would repeat them or not as they all work differently if you made some enquiries if you start to look into going private this is something you could ask :-)

Let us know how you get on :-) x

Hi had same problem did not want to wait so went privately currently bill £4000 to include scan but more accounts to follow I expect at least another consultation to discuss findings so unfortunately total will rise - I hope this helps a little in making a decision. Good luck.
