shortness of breath

hi everyone, I posted quite a long time ago about palpitations, I read several of your posts on your experiences with no definitive result. So I wanted to share my cautionary tale, eventually my palpitations subsided only to be replaced by breathlessness, the whole of last year was very stressful as I was selling and buying a home there were lots of problems. I sat in front of one of my GPs saying how bad my breathlessness was and nothing, They had been good with ECGS and monitor but always ok. So no further investigation required. At the end of last year I finally moved, I don’t know how I did it as the breathlessness was so bad, I remember saying out loud, this isn’t right, something is very wrong. So on 28Dec I had a stroke, leaving me with left hemipegia, the paramedics said I was in AF, which as we know ups your chances of having a stroke. Could my stroke have been avoided? Is something I ask myself, my AF wasn’t picked up as it doesn’t always present, had it been seen I would have been put on appropriate medication. So to anyone with similar condition, please don’t ignore.

I’m so sorry this has happened.

We think of medics as all-knowing and all-seeing and of course they are not.

However, it’s happened now and “what-ifs” are no good to you - as you know. So thank you for posting.

So sorry to hear about this. Sometimes, the person is the best judge of their body and health. If something isnt feeling right, then most likely it isnt.

Sadly, whilst there are lots of heroics going on at the NHS, it is still pretty poor at prevention and health outcomes. Who knows if your symptoms were followed on, it could have been avoided? Ifs and buts,....

But my advice would be - the stroke has happened and better to be looking ahead. Personally, I would focus my entire energy on the recovery road that lies ahead and try to be the best I can be. We cant change what has happened, but can affect the future still.
