2 years on Mitral Valve replaced

Just an update: and to wish everyone here healthier life.

It is not 2 years since I had my mitral valve replaced witch mechanical valve (i was 44 years old) at Barts London. I am doing well and working full time (started 3 months after the op).

Apart from recently needing to catch up my breath and wanting to have a deep breath more regularly(i feel like I put on weight a bit that could be the reason) I am doing good.

Warfarine is settled and i have been taking the same dosage for about 1 year without changing. I am taking it on time every day (5pm).

Doing gardening (allotment) and walking with friends. enjoying my usual drinks in the pub (about twice a month). Not drinking more than 2 or max 3 pints.

NHS has seen me properly only once since my operation and then told me I will be seen about 18 months later which is not too great. In the mean time I went to Turkey and get it checked. Things seen ok. I will have another check next month there to not risk myself (nhs appointment is in 2024 October)

Biggest change in my life is I am only keeping real friends around: I got rid of the people who were acting like a friend but was never a good friend. Anyone who did not care to check on me during my recovery period is no longer on my phone list. I realised who is real who is not. I spend time with the real friends now.

Personally I am keeping myself positive: focusing on gardening and my work helps a lot. And most importantly enjoying life with friends and family as usual.

I wish you the best and enjoy everyday you breath.

Best regards

Thanks for the update. It is really good when people take the time to do this for those of us that will need the op in the future since it is hard not to be fearful of what lies ahead. (My mitral valve regurgitation is currently moderate but my yearly echocardiogram is coming up...) It is great to hear you are enjoying life. That is the main thing. Interesting too that you find out who your real friends are when you have the op! All the best for the future.
