Using Omron BP meter

Good morning all

Does anyone have experience using the AFib function on this device?

During a recent stay in hospital the doctor told me that the tablets I was taking for high BP were unnecessary at this time as my BP was normal. She told me to start them again if/when the BP went over 140. So I have been monitoring it daily with an Omron device.

My pulse is just generally all over the place. Extra pulses, missed pulses; very difficult to count the pulses if I feel for it on the wrist or neck. But I don't have the problems that many folk seem to have; just breathless when walking/cycling uphill and sometimes a bit lightheaded (never passed out). So I've tried the AFib function on this device: it takes 3 BP measurements at 30 sec intervals and then gives an average BP and indicates if you are in Afib. It always tells me that I am. Should I believe that I'm in permanent AFib?

I know that you can't give me medical advice, but does anyone have experience with this function and how reliable it is?

Thanks and cheers.

hello

The advice I have had here and from sites like

bloodpressureuk.org/your-bl...

Is to take three readings with a rest in between (more than 30 seconds) ignore the first and take higher or average of it the other two. Do this similar times each day morning and evening.

I have an omron but not as fancy I.e. it doesn’t take three consecutive readings, I have to present the button to take reading. I have the one with a fib monitoring but it’s occurred occasionally but not consistently.

If you have had advice on how to take great otherwise perhaps try the above and if you are consistently getting Afib alerts call your doctor.

Hope helps.

I have a Microlife BP machine and it also has the AFib function which often tells me it has detected AF. The instructions on mine say to take another reading after an hour and if it picks up AF to test again the next day. If it’s constantly like that it then recommends you see your GP.

Thanks, Rosie. Yes I'll contact the nurse in the cardiology department where I go. I'm not due for a check up until the autumn, but she is helpful. I just wanted to check with folk on here if the AFib warnings are reliable.
