Hello :-)

Sorry to hear about your diagnosis but I am sure they will get it under control even though it can be frightening when you are told something is wrong

I have no experience with this but had a quick look and found a Community that might be able to give you some answers that you need

I will pop the link on so it will take you straight there and you could try posting and see if they have some experiences they can share with you :-) x

Try not to get worked up Purple; this is scary for you because it's new and it's shocked you. That feeling will pass.

Based on a good friend's experience (bronchiectasis) with fungal infections when they occur, cardio-thoracic specialists see patients with lung fungal infections on a regular basis and are used to dealing with them. They will deal with yours too, so try not to worry. Where there is also a heart issue, the specialists will talk to each other.

Be-Kind's reference is good and you should be able to talk through your worries with a consultant once your case is allocated and the clinical team whenever you need to. Though I don't have a lung issue, I find it's helpful to write down questions before seeing a consultant/clinic so that nothing gets forgotten; it's also quite therapeutic.

Focus on doing relaxing things that you like to do and take it easy. You're diagnosed, you're in the system and you will receive appropriate treatment in due course as well as solid advice.

I've been been prescribed fluconazole 50mg one a day for 7 days....only thing I'm scared about is that it can cause fast heart rate 😭

It's understandable to be worried about a change to heart rate (HR), especially if there's already a cardiac issue. I hope that when prescribing the drug, the doctor advised you about what to do if you do experience a persistent change in your HR. If you're in any doubt, check with the prescriber immediately (first thing later this morning that is!) so that you know what action to take if you do experience an uncomfortable change to your usual heart rhythm.

The main thing though is not to worry. Anxiety, stimulating a flow of cortisol and adrenaline, will bump up HR and could be mistaken as the result of a change in medication. It's really important to try to stay calm and thereby keep the 'fight or flight' hormones under control.

Oh dear. The information you've been given is unlikely to have reassured you! I suggest you keep very, very calm and quietly go back to the prescribing clinic by phone (at first). Ask the following questions:

"Can you tell me please what I should do in the event of having an adverse and seemingly cardiac reaction to the anti-fungal medication I've been prescribed and what the likelihood is of that happening?"

You already know that the dosage is one-a-day. You already know it's only for a week. These are not the questions to which you have asked for an answer and you should say this if the previously offered information is repeated to you.

If this polite approach gets you nowhere fast, ask for an email address so that you can set down your question in writing and obtain a written reply to it, with someone's name attached. If someone in a medical capacity is going to give you an off-the-cuff perfunctory reply, they have a duty of care to own it.

Keep calm; keep asking. You're entitled to know the likelihood and what you should do in the event of problems. Good luck!

Hello, like Bridgeit, I have a friend who was diagnosed with this condition. It was during covid so by the time she was able to see her Dr and get a hospital appointment it was pretty bad. But she said the specialists are brilliant. She was treated and is checked on regularly and she is fine now but she is still monitored annually to ensure no further problems.Try and stay positive you will be well looked after.
