Talk to the BHF Heart Helpline nurse who will be able to give you professional advice .

What you should do depends on your particular condition. Don't try to do too much, and warm up slowly. Push for the rehab classes. mine were excellent. Don't sit around all day unless you were specifically told not to move.

I hope the BHF nurses were helpful.

Thank you,

I did talk to the BHF cardiac nurse and sadly there is a 6/8 week waiting list for rehab in my area, I have been out side for 10 minutes walk with my wife, and I live in a Town house which as you will know had lots of stairs, I have not gone mad with the stairs just going down to the ground floor for meals and up to the top floor for a shower every day, I have a big area that I can walk back and forth for 10 minutes just a couple of times per day, I did say to the nurse that I am sitting down more than I’m moving but she said that is the case with most people, I suppose we can’t be on the move all the time

Very kind regards and a thank you

Pat

All those stairs are cheaper than a treadmill! 😀

Hi.. You should be contacted by your local hospital and get enrolled on to a 6 week+ exercise regime, or just contact your local hospital cardiology and ask, in the mean time as somebody has already stated gentle exercise using the stairs

Follow the book they gave you on discharge it has the first weeks exercise in it that you do until you start the cardiac rehab.

You can start to go outside if you feel like it, I started with two very short walks each day only about 100m each and just built it up depending how I felt. I kept to two walks a day and was soon doing 3 miles a day

Wrap up very warm.

how far can you comfortably walk, im on week 6-7 now. first walk outside of the ward was at a slow pace about 50 yards. its what you are comfortable with, without exerting your self. if you get breathless even mildly stop. its a marathon not a race.
