Hello
I have an appetite but I could not manage 3 shredded wheat in a Morning
Maybe if you cut then down to 2 or even 1 you might feel like you can manage more at lunch etc
We can all over do things at times pace yourself throughout the day
Hey Pat! I had a really poor appetite after my surgery. I would feel “hungry” but after a few mouthfuls I would be really full again. If it makes you feel any better I was so upset by it that I cried into my dinner at one point and my husband didn’t know what to do. I know it was the combination of drugs and anasetic that was making me so emotional but they were also the cause of my eating patterns. I even went off having a glass of wine for a couple of months (devastating!!) I am absolutely back to normal now and it didn’t take long to get my appetite back.
Also, if your at all constipated which is really common after a bypass it can affect how much your eating/appetite.
Small and often did me a lot of good. So I would have a small breakfast of one weetabix, a snack of something 2 hours later, a little lunch of piece of toast with something, a snack at 4pm, a little dinner - about half of what I would normally have, and then a snack of something sweet an hour or so before bed.
Don’t worry about eating what you used to eat, you can have the same, just less of it for a while xx
Thank you for you kind comments, me to a 71 year old male have had boughts of cry I will try the snack idea just had a shower and I am completely knackered still there is no rush, I suppose like you tired all the time constipated a bit grumpy I this this is all par for the course, I do hope you have started back on a glass of wine habit lol
Hi Patrick! It’s sooooo normal to be tearful after this surgery. I read that I would potentially be “more emotional” after the surgery and I thought “yeh, right, that’s not me at all”…it was so so true! One night I woke up crying and my husband came in and soothed me like a kid!! I had many tearful moments and then slowly but surely they got less and now I’m back to normal (what ever normal is).
Also, being exhausted is very normal too. But, you will turn a corner and you’ll think “oh wow, I couldn’t have done that 2 weeks ago” and that will happen again and again.
Oh and don’t worry, I’m enjoying wine again!! Phew!!
Tank you for your encouragement, it means a lot when you read about other peoples struggles, I had my bypass 10 days ago and I feel completely useless, this was a planned bypass and before I was so active this had knocked me for 6 I have to look forward and count the days and the weeks when I start to feel better and stronger
Not had any surgery but with Afib and DCM my appetite was zero, had to push myself to eat but in September I started taking an iron and vit b12 capsule. My appetite has come back to normal levels (not a big eater anyway) to the extent I've been able to have a normal restaurant meal instead of a child's that I struggled with AND a pudding!! HTH
You've been throught alot Pat and the effects of anaesthetic and new drugs are bound to make their presence felt. Also surgeons have been rummaging around in your chest to get to work to make you well. Whenever you've had such an assault its bound to affect your usually very healthy appetite. As others have said light regular meals and compassion for your poor body is the way to go. Keep us posted.
3 shredded wheat? is that even legal? If you do too much one day it will catch up with you the next day or even two. But week on week you should see an improvement, but not day on day.
