Very worrying for you, especially as you are still young. Most likely, no action required until you get severe stenosis. Or if you get excessive exhaustion.Probably you will then need a replacement valve. But the later the better, then you will have a wider option as to which valve can be used. I found the operation an amazing experience. There is a 99% success rate. Not like other hospital ops, such good medics will do your op.

It could be years before you need the op. I suggest that you get on to a good diet, do daily exercise and get into a good sleep pattern. Wean off excess booze and eliminate smoking.

After the op you will be convalescing for a few months, so a little forethought could be useful.

Lots of us on this site have replaced valves and can offer verbal support.

Hi Lukey73. I was diagnosed with AS at 51. It wasn't much to worry about and I would get biannual checks. Unfortunately I went down hill quickly and had my AVR (Aortic Valve Replacement) within 18 months of being diagnosed, so never made the next appointment. I am a fit, active person, but started struggling with my breathing, I wasn't able to walk steep ascents, jog and simple household chores were taking its toll. I was fortunate to have a good GP and after angiogram and other tests I was booked in for surgery. I had a metal valve, purely for my age. It's a 99% success rate and surgeons were great! My advice is to monitor your fitness and if you start to feel breathless, or daily tasks become more challenging, contact your GP. Ask for a yearly check up to be done and notify your family. I lost 5 members to the same illness, but we have a big family. It is hereditory, and the other members all got tested and are now being monitored. The AVR was the best thing that ever happened to me. Hopefully you will hear news soon, but please chase things up.

Hi LukeyHopefully no news is good news, but this condition doesn't go away without surgery. If your AS is mild it may be a case of watch and wait. You'd like to think that they would tell you though 😕.

Have you spoken to your GP? The hospital are likely to have have updated them.

If you are on Facebook and want to join a group made up of others with Aortic conditions, it's called UK Aortic & Heart defects Pre and post surgery. It was a Godsend when I was diagnosed last year and everyone was so supportive up to surgery and also now.

Check with you GP to see if they have the results. If not, they'll be able to chase them up and reassure you.

I think it’s always a shock, when you are told there is something wrong with your heart. I’m sure you will find many hearties on this forum to support you. Mine was picked up in 2006, monitored yearly, until a couple of years pre op, then 6 monthly. I had a new Edwards aortic valve 2019. Apparently they like to do it when measurements require it. 3 years on just had my yearly check, all A1, and cardiologist doesn’t want to see me for 2 years!

Fantastic, and I’m 86, just enjoyed a holiday in Menorca with a son and daughter.

Just as well it’s A1, am on waiting list to have revision of my L prosthetic hip, which to date has dislocated 4 times! Not looking forward to that!
