Fetal Moderate Aortic Stenosis

itsintheairandout profile image

Hi - last week my wife and I were told that our baby has moderate aortic stenosis.

My wife is 22 weeks pregnant and this is our first child. The stenographer noticed something may be wrong with the heart at the 20 week scan and the cardiologist confirmed the diagnosis in a follow up scan.

We have been told the 'best case' and 'worst case' scenarios by the (brilliant) team of doctors. We have done a lot of reading about the condition, but would like to hear from anyone who has been in a similar position or has a child with the condition.

Thank you

Hello and welcome to the forum! This is something that I know very little about but I do know that tremendous advances have been made in fetal and infant heart care in recent years. I can do no more than wish you all well as it seems you are with an excellent team!

An unusual moniker. Are you a tennis or golf fan?

Hi Michael, thanks for your message. It's a cricket reference, but I am a fan of most sports!

Hello

Welcome to the forum.

I am sorry to hear that your wife's 20 week antenatal ultrasound gave you a finding that you were not expecting or anticipating. It must of been such a shock for you both.

Whilst it is a worrying time for you the earlier problems like these are found the better as it enables the healthcare professionals to plan with you the best way forward.

There are some other places to go for the support you are seeking and I have given some links which I hope you will find helpful.

The Cardiac nurses on the BHF helpline line are another good source of help

chfed.org.uk/about-us/membe...

tinytickers.org/

helplines.org/helplines/the...

Good luck.

Hi, what worrying news to be given. Our eldest daughter was told at her 20 week scan that her baby had a congenital lung condition (CCAM), with her left lung being worst affected and potentially impacting her heart. She was monitored throughout her pregnancy and delivery. Her ‘baby had surgery at 12 months old to remove half of her left lung and is now a healthy, sporty 10 year old!

Best wishes to you both and to your baby.

Hi thanks to the progress in medical research problems are now being found earlier please stay positive. I recently had my aortic valve replaced at the age of 62 when I met the surgeon before my op he said I was born with a valve that had 2 parts stuck together no one knew I wish i was that child now as I know my life would have much better. Take heart that it’s been found and the team will look after you best wishes and prayers
