Hi everyone , my husband had a heart attack & 2 stents fitted in feb 2021 . He has heart failure now , shortness of breath if active though not severe . We are booked to go to Spain at end of may only a 3 hour flight . We have booked assistance at airport mainly as it's on Dreamliner & we know it's a long walk to gate at Manchester Airport . Yes he could probably walk the distance if time was unlimited but didn't want him to feel pressured . What are anyones experience of flying with heart failure ?

Dear Anxious
So sorry to hear of your husbands suffering and I’m sure that some time in the sun will help the pair of you.
You could of course arrive early? Stupid but maybe overlooked, contact the airport and see if you can book him a wheelchair to get you to departure?
There maybe assistance there, which I’m sure there is having seen wheelchair bound persons being pushed around or wheeled around in those cart things { sorry sure they have a name } by staff.
Contact the airport, there will be help for you.
Remember to update his insurance to include all his latest results and medication.
But above all have a fantastic time, I wish the God of tan-lines to visit you!
Thank you so much for replying . The airport assistance is booked though he will hate being in a wheelchair lol ! Insurance all sorted & health issues updated. He always insists on sitting in the window seat , annoying really as he'll probably nod off ! Extra leg room booked window & middle , I pity the person in the aisle seat as I will actively encourage ( nag in his words) to get up for a walk . At least he will be getting a Mediterranean diet & plenty of walks along the prom . I'm looking forward to it & really don't want to stress ,any info regarding flying is helpful .
I think that you have planned it well and as you say its a short flight, ask his Dr if compression stockings will help him.
Flood him with tea/beer on the flight and he will soon have to get up for a wee and a walk.
And the good old exercise of “good toes naughty toes” will help with that circulation.
But most of all enjoy yourself, and I mean the pair of you, heart problems affect more than just the patient.
Thank you so much, I hadn't considered compression socks , sure he'll love them NOT ! lol
