Dear Arlejo
Hello and welcome to your first post.
Now remember that I am not medically trained but I was told that the dental hygiene {work} was more important when have anything done to the valves of the heart.
Like you are about to have, I had open heart surgery {bypass} and they didn’t seem so concerned {but mine was during lockdown} about my teeth.
I think that you should call your Heart team, I really don’t see what your dentists problem is, as most times you pay for antibiotics from them and the only harm I could see them doing is up-setting your tummy, but I maybe wrong.
Take care and please let us know
I’ve had open heart surgery and both my surgeon and dentist insisted on antibiotics for any treatment. I’d email your surgeon’s office and tell them what’s planned. Best of luck. Sue 🙏
Hi when I was waiting on my transplant I unfortunately needed four extractions three were done in the hospital and one by my dentist. I never had antibiotics for any of them, I have since had a crown and I wasn't given them for that either. Good luck with the surgery take care char
I am a dentist. It was thought for many years that antibiotics given before dental treatment reduced the risk of heart infections. This idea has been discredited and it has been shown that the use of what is called prophylactic antibiotics does more harm than good. There are, however, some people who don’t always keep up to date with current research who still advise giving them despite the evidence. Sounds like you’ve got a dentist who keeps up to date
And here's the NICE guideline backing up what Mentdent said :-): nice.org.uk/guidance/cg64/e...
