On Sunday I ended up in A&E with an erratic and fast running pulse ( about 80-90, my normal pulse is 45-55, I take Atenolol for heart attack 17 years ago ). The rhythm seemed to get back to normal within 12 hours but it is now Wednesday and my Pulse is about 60 - 75. Will it come down back to what it was ? The hospital told me I have AF, that’s the first I know of it.

Hi. I am also 70 years old. . My doctor recently took me off Atenolol. He said faith in Atenolol is fading. There are better newer meds. Also not the best for seniors. I had been on Atenolol approx. the same length of time as you. Might be worth it to talk your doctor about other med options. He now has me on Hypdrochlorothiazide 25 mg, one per day and Canadesarton Cilexetil 8 mg once per day. Right now my blood pressure is the best it has been since I started monitoring it. 122/ 80 average. He has me on two meds. Two lower dosage meds is better than one higher dosage. Less side effects that way. Hope things settle for you. I live in Canada.
