Been diagnosed with diabetes a week ago, sugar levels very high, now after a week on insulin it’s back to normal. Is this normal after a week?, Also notice my heart rate is very low, which is concerning since I have Atrial Fibrillation.

Hi. You dont give too much information, but yes this is possible. I've been diabetic over 20 years and on insulin 3 times daily with 2 different types of insulin.I've had periods of very high readings 25 + when for whatever reason, I have been non-compliant . . . (not to be recommended), but within 3/4 days levels can be returned to normal 5.4 - 7.

Hope this helps.

Hello and welcome to the forum!

I have been a Type I diabetic virtually all my life and had a quadruple bypass in 2018.

With insulin treatment I would expect blood sugars to be near normal within 24 - 48 hours but working out the actual daily regime can take a while longer.

Hyperglycemia (high blood glucose) means there is too much sugar in the blood because the body lacks enough insulin. Associated with diabetes, hyperglycemia can cause vomiting, excessive hunger and thirst, rapid heartbeat, vision problems and other symptoms. Untreated hyperglycemia can lead to serious problems and eventually death. So I would expect your pulse to drop as things return to normal. You do not quote any figures so it is impossible too comment further. Talk with your GP or cardiogist.

Hello Yellow26, Are you on any other medications? I am taking (Entresto) with insulin (Tresiba) everything was doing well, until they decided to add a new heart medicine which dropped my BP to low for me, which would cause weakness to make feel like passing out. I was given (eplerenone) and it does not bother my BP. Will have blood work to make sure it's

not bothering any other organs. So your medications is key to your cardiologist. Let him/her

know of any problems with your medication(s). Your heart problem may be different from mine. I was told I didn't have AF. Be careful when it comes to low BP. Have a wonderful day!

Hello CillyGirlThanks for that information, I’m on a Amlodipine and Enalapril, I have notice my blood pressure is down. I was at the nurse today as my apple iwatch was alerting me while I was sleeping that my heart rate was down to 38 beats per minute, they told me to ignore the watch as it was not accurate, still a bit worrying.
