Hello and welcome to the forum. My husband has DCM too and had a very low EF when diagnosed 4 years ago, but it’s much improved now. There’s no need to give up life, just live it within your own capabilities - and it’s a good life. Have you discovered the charity Cardiomyopathy UK? There’s loads of information on their website. cardiomyopathy.org

All the best to you and your loved ones.

Hi l rarely post anything now but l had to because your words will help you survive!!! l remember nearly five years ago after three months in hospital and having to face a 11 hour open heart surgery 5 weeks after the first aortic valve op failed due to sepsis and infective endocarditis which destroyed my healthy heart. A group of Doctors came into my room the night before this op and were talking in hushed tones, l knew my odds were low but l NEVER gave up so l sat up and said to them "excuse me but l am not dying, l want a new kitchen" they all laughed and said because of my fighting spirit and positivity and an amazing heart surgeon l would live. lt was a long hard fight but l made it against all odds my surgeon told me he dragged me back from death twice on the operating table MY HERO. l am very happy with my family, a very naughty German shepard puppy and a lovely new kitchen, plus a holiday booked to Zante next year. The hardest part of recovery is mental but l gained amazing support from this site so always reach out to the lovely people here. Take care, Sue.
