I’m new here; history of heart disease in my husband’s family and am wondering if the history of hypothyroidism in my family could exacerbate any heart issues in our family?

Hi, I have just been diagnosed with both - but it looks like the undiagnosed/untreated hypothyroidism led to very high cholesterol which accelerated the heart issues. I think as long as thyroid issues are treated quickly it’s fine, but obviously I’m not a doctor!

Thank you - glad you’re receiving necessary treatment. My son suffered a fatal heart attack six months ago aged 37 after displaying no apparent heart diseases symptoms. His father had been diagnosed with angina aged 38 but had all the symptoms so was treated successfully. My family have the hypothyroidism history and my son physically resembled my side of the family. I’m starting to believe he unfortunately inherited both conditions and I want to be vigilant on belay of his sister and his daughter.

So sorry to hear about your son - that’s awful. I’m sure with your history your family will be able to get regular thyroid checks.
