I have a diagnosis of AF and hypertrophic obstructive cardiomyopathy and have been put on starting dose of 15 mg mirtrazapine. I have been put on it after a zoom call with the crisis team. I have been on it for 7 days and it has calmed me right down to almost my normal self. I have now had chance to read up about all the side effects and the weight gain is really worrying me. My mission for the past 40 years since diagnosis has been to stay within good BMI range and weight range. Does anyone gave any good experience of this drug. I already take apicabsn candersarten and disopyromide. Kind regards

Hi Crochet baby.Sorry to hear that you've been having a hard time. Mirtazapine is a really good antidepressant, the one of choice for most professionals these days. It can indeed cause weight gain, but since you are on the lower starting dose, the chances are less. I know several people that are on it without any problems and others have only had a marginal weight gain. I suppose its down to the persons metabolism. I've just been put on antidepressants today as I've been struggling for a while. I've been given sertraline, apparently this is suitable for people with cardiac issues. If you monitor regularly and the weight starts creeping up, you can always ask for a review.
Thankyou for replying you have made me feel better. I hope the sertraline works for you it’s awful time when we are struggling. I haven’t always struggled so I know it will end and then happier times. I hope the same for you too. Kind regards
