Losartan - Reply if you’re happy with it

Is anybody taking losartan and happy with it? No side effects? I do know some people who have no side effects, but when I look online it seems everybody is unhappy with EVERY type of bp med!

Yes, I’m as happy as I can be with taking any sort of meds! Losartan is one of the few BP meds I can take without any discernible side effects.

That’s good to hear. What dosage are you at?

Celtic profile image
Celtic in reply to Smmmm

100mgs - originally on 50mgs for some years but increased when hospitalised with a heart problem a couple of years ago. It’s best to be started on a low dose of most BP meds and then slowly titrated up as and if necessary.

50 msg is what my doc is recommending. I’d rather do 25 mgs but he seemed to think it wouldn’t be strong enough. My pressure seems to hover around 165/90, with some ups and downs. It bounces around even at rest.

I’m happy with it😀. I’ve been on it since 2014 and had no problems at all with it.

Thanks for your reply! My doc wants me to start on 50 mg.

I’m on 100mg. Hopefully you’ll have no problems at all with it . 😄

If you Google "side effects" then all your hits will be on side effects only. Even placebos have side effects.

Smmmm profile image
Smmmm in reply to Palpman

Yea that’s absolutely true! I haven’t specifically googled side effects, but just basically googled same question as here and only see negative statements. Glad to see there are some who don’t have any issues

Yep I'm happy, I think it was the 5th one I tried, reacted badly to the others, 18 months on Losartan and no side effects worth mentioning.

Thanks for your reply! Do you recall how long it took to see your pressure lower?

in reply to Smmmm

Sorry no, I've always had lowish blood pressure anyway and was also on Bisoprolol.

I can’t say I’m happy to be on it but the side effects are far better (for me) than the ramipril i was on , i am 100mg losartan and 2.5mg indapimide to control bp , as well as other heart meds and the only noticeable problem i have is if i have gotten up too quickly from sitting or kneeling i get dizzy and end up sitting down again, sometimes on the floor...

Hi Basman65, I have been on Losartan since 2012 without any issues. I started having dizziness when standing up only after a beta blocker was added to my meds. You may find that it is not the Losartan that causes the problem if your areply on a beta blocker. I worked with the pharmacist at my GP practice to get the balance between my meds right and now only get dizziness at certain times, usually after sitting for a lengthy period.

Thanks for that GWP1952, i am on bisoprolol 1.25mg as well as other meds ranolazine and isosorbide mononitrate so could be that...

MountainGoat52 profile image
MountainGoat52 in reply to Bassman65

That's the same dose of Bisoprolol that I am on which is a low dosage, so it might not be that which is causing the dizziness. Maybe worth a chat with your GP?

Guys. The dizziness is not uncommon in older folk regardless of taking heart medicine. I am a Losartan user (aged 70) and do get the odd dizzy moments (but it does not stop me playing in goal for my local 6 aside team!). There is a view that if one analyses too much how one feels there will always be “something wrong”. Stay safe and well_Pablo 😎⚽️🍷

I had to laugh when I read your post. Old at 70? They say that 60 is the new 40, so that makes 70 the new 50. I'm only a couple of years behind you and I certainly don't feel old. 😀 Ask me again when I'm 80.

I’ve been taking 100mg daily for 7 years with no side effects.

I rather think that people who aren’t having problems don’t post.

I've been on various doses of Losartan for the last 3 years since my Thoracic Ascending Aneurysm was discovered. Started on 50mg then 100mg. After my open heart surgery last April its been reduced to 25mg daily. Never had any issues with it at all. I was never put on it for blood pressure though as its all been fine.

I’ve been taken Losartan for about 10 years with no side effects. I take 125mgs each morning. The largest pill they make is 100mgs so I have to take an added 25mg pill. Everyone is different and reacts differently to drugs so it’s about finding the right one for you. I have a friend who takes it also and he has no side effects either. Give it a try and see if it works for you but if it doesn’t suit you, go straight back to your Doc and try something else.

Good luck!!

Thank you. I’ve just been raised up to 100 mg (from 50 mg). My pressure is stubbornly high. Like really high.

I started on 50mg back in 2012 after having serious side effects while on Ramipril and subsequently Amlodipine. Losartan has been brilliant for me and I have had no problems with it.

Early in 2017 my BP started to go up, so my GP raised the dose to 100mg and still I had no issues. Unfortunately the raised dose did not fully correct my rising BP so my GP added Doxasozin which made my BP go up even further! In hindsight I should have been sent for a scan as in July 2017 I had a heart attack and was rushed to hospital for stents. When I came out of hospital, my medication increased to include Aspirin, an anti-coagulant, a beta blocker and a statin. The Losartan was reduced to 25mg and I am still on it without any issues.

I’ve been on losartan for nearly 20 years. It is combined with felodipine, and it was prescribed after previous BP meds failed to reduce my BP. I have had no problems and my bp has been stable.

Hi Smmmm. I take Losartan after a disastrous side effect period with Amlodipine. I get the itchy ankle thing sometimes which is common apparently but generally it does the job. Every drug has side effects its really how lucky you are. Many people suffer absolutely no side effects. Me I've had very painful side effects from two drugs so far. But with Losartan so far so good...

I wish I could say the same I have tried Bisoprolol, Amlodipine then losarten. All gave me problems I am too sensitive on meds.

Hi, I’ve been taking Losartan since February this year. Started with 75mg and now on 100mg, haven’t had any problems so far 😊

I have been on Losarten 100 for a year now with no side effects at all. In the past I have had many side effects from BP tablets, been taking BP meds since 1992 and can honestly say these are the only ones that have been side effect free. Only worry I have is I am now 75 and the leaflet does say not to be taken by 75 year olds. Strangely enough I have today sent a letter to my GP regarding this. I was 74 when first prescribed it. I do hope you can have it as I be,ieve it’s the very best in all ways x

Had not noticed that and I'm 86 and I see an expert at the hypertension centre at a major hospital. As we get older we are not meant to be too highly medicated in case of being light headed and the danger of falls

It's the only one of many tried that I have not had a problem with and have been taking it since November 2001. A few times since I have been changed to 'a new better one' but soon switched back again. I've been on various dosages up to 100mg. but now just 12.5 mg twice a day.

My pressure was a little high prior to the 100 mg of Losartan, now runs pretty much normal.

I'm on 100mg of Losartan after trying three or four other bp meds. It's hard to say if any side affects as don't know if it's the meds or not. I have put on a lot of weight which some put down to the Losartan, but I'm also on Bisoprolol and have found out it could be them as they slow everything down, including your metabolism. On the whole I am happy on the Losartan.

Hi, I’ve been taking Losartan at 100mg since last March and no side effects.

Smmmm profile image
Smmmm in reply to London13

Thanks for replying. I have been taking Losartan 50mg for just 3 days but it didn’t bring down my pressure much so my doc said to double it and see how that goes. So I’m at 100mg now. My pressure has been quite high 185-200 over 80-100., and the 50mg only brought it down to around 160/90 but still spiking even at rest to 190/100. Fingers crossed this will work and with no side effects.
