Hair thinning Baldness

Ive recently been taking Atorvastatin and have noticed my hair is thinning and brittle is this a side effect ?
Hi clematinerose. Exactly the same thing has happened to me. Just of late could do absolutely nothing with my hair!! Like you got really thin and extremely brittle. Spoke to my GP this week and has told me to not take my 20mg atorvastatin statin but continue with my 30mg isosorbide mononitrate. I feel my hair has stopped shredding just after a week!! My diet is mainly plant based and I try and eat as many inflammatory foods I can in a day and i now do regularly exercise. Hopefully with these rituals put in place I can keep of the statins. Speak to your gp. Apparently atorvastatin does make hair thinner....
Thank you for your reply. I have had a blood test and awaiting results because they said it could be down to me loosing a lot of weight quickly. I cut out carbs because I was told I’m also a type 2 diabetic but I’m not convinced it is down to my diet as I have been eating healthy, personally I think it is down to meds. I will now push for a change and I am due to see my cardiologist on 25th and hoping they will be more I understanding! Best wishes to you, so stressful to loose your hair.
I'm on a large dose of Atorvastatin, 80mg to be exact and since my H/A 12 weeks ago I've noticed that my hair is finer and a bit lacklustre. I'm also menopausal so I think that along with the medication isn't helping at all! My once strong nails are now also horribly brittle as well. To be honest, although it's a little upsetting I'm just happy to be alive now
Ooh,I've been noticing an awful lot of hair coming out; far more than usual. Hadn't thought about the tablets.
Hi Clematinrose. After my HA 2 years ago, I was put on a cocktail of drugs, including 40mg Atorvastatin. My hair immediately began to fall out in worrying amounts in the shower or just brushing it. Fortunately, after a couple of months it settled down and is now as thick as ever and I'm having it cut tomorrow for the first time since lockdown - woohoo!
