Is anyone aware of any longterm side effects of heart related meds that can overtime, reduce ones sense of smell?
I take Bisoprolol & Ramipril.

I have been placed on these medicines for long-term use. Assuming (that it is not what the other person said and something unrelated) you are right in saying that these medicines can have a lot of side-effects. I changed from ramp Iril to ENTRESTO which in my opinion is a much better medicine with less side-effects at least for my situation anyway. However I must advise you that there can be lots of side-effects with all these medicines particularly ones you are taking. There is some good news is that I have found that many of the side-effects of disappeared. The latest being that I had a huge outbreak of spots about a month ago but now this is fading away. You could try asking to change to the medicine I suggested – if you have just been put on mads now this is unlikely that they will change they only do it later on. The side-effects do get better but can take six months plus to improve. It’s a long haul
I've taken Bisoprolol and Ramipril for about 8 years and not noticed any appreciable loss of smell. How long have you been taking them/noticed the loss. As HappyJo says it's a Covid19 symptom. Take care.
thanks gladitz, been on them for two yrs now. And yes, this has mainly happened since I was really ill between 18th March and 8th April where I believe I had a mild version of Coronavirus. It was really bad from then on. Prince Charles said the other day, that his smell and taste have still not returned. However, I’ve had two Covid-19 field tests but negative both times. I need a test to see if I’ve had it and now have anti bodies!
Hope it will return in time. It's no fun not being able to taste things properly, everything tastes like chewing cardboard. Mind you depending on the cardboard that can be quite tasty. ( Odd habit of childhood). Be interesting to see if you do now have antibodies.
Thanks Happy Jo
I have been tested twice now and both times negative. However, I believe I did have the virus as I was laid up mostly in bed between the 18th March to 8th April as I was at Cheltenham on 13th March and much has been spoken about a spike of Covid-19 cases. I def had a mild version of it. I’ve never been so ill in all my adult life. Prince Charles recently said his smell and taste has still not returned either.
I lost my sense of taste about 2 months ago. Food tastes so bland for me while the rest of the household disagree.
My favourite chocolate now tastes exactly like bees wax.
I take Flecainide and atorvastatin and have not felt ill for months.
