I stopped taking bendroflumathiazide.

I developed gout recently and stopped taking bendroflumathiazide as I found it increased uric acid levels. My BP is OK, but I have put on 3 pounds in a few days (I read that this is a rebound action due to now retaining more water and sodium). Will this settle down soon?

Does yourDr know that you have stopped the Bendroflumethiaside? If not, then you should discuss this with him/her. At the same time, the Dr could advise you regarding the weight gain.

With regard to gout, following my own experience with that I have found that restricting high acid foods/purines in my diet has helped. Good luck with that as it is a very painful experience.

Thank you for replying. Yes, I told the doc over the phone and he agreed that Bendro. could increase uric acid levels, and to keep a close check on my BP, but so far so good. I've stopped gaining weight, but haven't lost any yet (unfortunately!)

I doubt many of us have lost weight during the lockdown but hang in there, avoid salt wherever possible and reduce refined carbs to help. Good luck,

Are you taking allopurinol? If not, probably.a good idea to do so as this reduces the amount of uric acid produced so will help prevent gout
