How long has any one been on these ❤️
amiodarone hydrochloride: How long has... - British Heart Fou...
amiodarone hydrochloride
Wow been on it 6 months
Heard you can’t be on it for long
Since my AVR 6 weeks ago. Worked really well on my heart rate.
Can I ask you how and why you came off of it ?
About 4 months so far
I was on it two years ago for nine months following a second heart attack, two TIAs and a period of AF. FWIW I’m 70 and fit. I’m led to believe it’s quite a powerful drug but it did the trick.
My husband was on it for two months after his quad bypass. Our GP, in consultation with the cardiologist, said it was no longer required. That was 18 months ago.
Take good care of yourself xxx
Hubby took it for about two months following his quadruple bypass, along with Rivaroxaban.
My defibrillator went off 61 times in 4hours just had a Ablation so my cardiologist said I can’t be on amiodarone for long
I was on it for 9months post heart surgery.
Before discharge, had a scary atrial fibrillation & 150 heart rate that wouldn’t leave with any other meds for 36hours. They started IV amiodarone & did a cardio version (shock to reset rhythm, not as bad as it sounds). They put me on amiodarone for 6m to prevent further AF during the typical heart surgery recovery period.
At the time, they explained it was a pretty nasty substance and they only gave it if nothing else worked. They wouldn’t want me to be on it forever, and if I was still getting AF later, they’d consider an ablation (but sounds like you’ve had this already).
I think I read that it reduces the electrical signals in the heart and this is what stops risk of going out of sinus rhythm. Maybe that signal reduction is not good if you’ve had ablation.
Also, remember to wear sunscreen! Skin can turn blue when on it, as sun reacts with the iodine. Apparently it can be long-lasting/permanent so I didn’t take chances.
I also remember reading it has a very long half life, so it stays in the body a long time. It takes 3 wks to build up to, and then reduce down from, the right therapeutic levels. And much longer to fully leave the body (so sunscreen long after).
Finally, the cannula where I had IV amiodarone made my flesh really sore & apparently damages that portion of vein for a while.
Maybe they also want to see if the ablation worked ? Good luck
Thank you so much ☺️
Can I ask why you came off of it?
As far as I can remember about 6 months, after heart surgery.
I take no pharmaceutical pills at this time, I stopped my aspirin, Metoprolol, amlodipine, prilosec due to the aspirin. If I PVC's take magnesium citrate.
My belief is I did not need open heart but there was not much time to think about it and a certain amount of fear. Diet change and much needed sleep would have cured me, I will never no and I have chest discomfort everyday, from the surgery.
Fiancé took it for approx 8 weeks following CABG x3 as he had 2 episodes of AFib after surgery (he’d never had AFib before.)
Hes been off it for 4 weeks now and all good so far.
Were you using it for AF and if so hows that working without the amioderone
