With previous epidemics of SARS, MERS, swine flu, and the Zika virus it was more a question when the next one would strike rather than if!

Whilst the infection rate for Coronavirus is higher its death rate is lower although unfortuneately this is resulting in many, many more deaths. I just hope world leaders, politicians and everyone else learns from this but somehow I doubt it! ☹️

Wanna read something really scary?

The Coming Plague by Laurie Garrett - so frightening even when I read it in first edition in 1994 I had to read part of a chapter, take two-five days to stop hyperventilating, then finish the chapter.

Sylvia Browne made a number of predictions that have come to be proved close enough to be quite startling. But Ms Garrett's book is science based (she is a Pulitzer and Peabody prizes winner) and is more terrifying than any psychic has ever been.

I will have to have a look at this when I feel brave!

It really is the single most frightening book I have ever read. It took me months to finish (it's one of those doorstop sized tomes) and all these years on I've read and re-read it, every time having to take it in small bites so I can recover from the terror it induces.

Not long after I finished the first reading I contracted Dengue Fever whilst living in Guatemala and what I'd read about Dengue in that book was oddly helpful. As was the section on zoonotic diseases when I contracted H1N1 (swine flu, thanks to a staffer coughing on me in a meeting despite my having sent the entire team a memo before the meeting they should go home and stay there if unwell - weeks in hospital and ten years later I still bristle when I think of that former staffer!).

But. Scary. Very, very scary!

Don’t know if I want to be more nervous than I am! Maybe have a read when this is all over, though maybe give it a miss. Hair is white enough!!

The Eyes of Darkness, a thriller novel by American writer Dean Koontz, refers to a bio-weapon called Wohan-400! 😱

Do they still publish Old Moore's Almanac? If so what does it say?
