Defining microvascular angina from coronary spasm
Hi Goldenheart
Can you say why you feel you may have microvascular or vasospastic angina ( coronary artery spasms) ?
There are several theories about the causes of Microvascular angina ( MVA)
Either the inability of the small blood vessels to dilate in response to extra demands like exercise.
This is known as microvascular dysfunction. In this case the person usually has chest pain and other symptoms such as breathlessness at exertion.
The other cause maybe due to the small vessels narrowing and causing temporary constrictions or spasms.
This can also occur in the the large coronary blood vessels causing vasospastic angina ( coronary artery spasms) . This cause tends to cause chest pain at rest especially in the night.
I live with coronary vasospastic angina so vasospasms in my microvessels and coronary arteries.
It hurts!
The research suggests that 50% of people with Ischaemia non obstructive coronary arteries (INOCA) also known as NOCAD non obstructive coronary artery disease live with just MVA
About 15% with just vasospastic angina causing coronary artery vasospasms
Just under 20% live with both MVA and vasospastic angina.
The rest unknown cause.
The BHF website has this information about Microvascular and vasospastic angina.
I hope it helps.
