Hello one and all. I recently attended St Thomas Hospital for a cardiac MRI scan. I received a copy of a letter sent from my cardiologist. I was wondering if there is anyone who could possibly help me with interpreting the results. The information in letter proceeds as so -

It shows moderate reduction in left ventricular function with an ejection fraction of 42%. this is described as being visually about right. there was bi-atrial dilation with some degree of mitral tricuspid and aortic regurgitation. The ascending aorta was mildly dilated(37mm). In terms of scare there is widespread circumferential mid wall myocardial enhancement, most prominent in the septum and inferior wall. In summary features in keeping with non-ischaemic cardiomyopathy. There is moderate left ventricular impairment but extensive scar.

Well that's it. I know that this will be explained to me when I get to see my cardiologist but I would like to have some idea of what this means.

I am 69 by the way. If anyone can advise it would be greatly appreciated.

Many thanks

Hello. I don’t know if you’ve found it yet but Cardiomyopathy UK have a really useful website and can send you a free information pack too. Here’s the link:

cardiomyopathy.org

They have an excellent nurse run helpline too.

Best wishes.
