Cardiomyopathy and running....

I’ve recently taken on the C25K as I want to use the programme to help me lose some weight and generally get back into shape. I’ve been concerned about raising my heart rate too far as I now live with a subcutaneous defibrillator. My first week of C25K is completed and I’ve done run 1 of week 2. I’m trying to understand how I can differentiate between my heart rate rise being due to my lack of fitness or my condition. Anyone else out there in a similar situation? Also posted this on the C25K community. Thanks.

You should discuss it with your doctor.

I did a while ago but it’s a good reminder that I should check in and see if the advice is the same. He wanted me to keep my HR to below 150...that’s sometime tough on the run even at a slow pace.

Heart rates need to be discussed with your cardiologist or GP as Jimmyq says. My max is lower than the simple Google formula because of the beta blocker factor. As fitness improves it takes more effort to hit that figure!

Thanks, I had an original aim of not going over 150bpm and it’s good advice to get that checked again. 👍
