Post pericarditis and heart monitors

I recently had a second incident of pericarditis (15 years apart) in recent years I have become a keen cyclist and I am enthusiastic to get cycling again as soon as possible but I want to be cautious about how hard I ride so I think a chest heart rate monitor would a good plan. Does anyone here use one and have any recommendations on which ones are good and hopefully affordable on a budget?

Hi Andy Sorry to hear about your further episode of pericarditis. Following a heart attack I use a Polar fitness watch with chest strap. You do not need to link to your phone unless you want GPS. I decided on the Polar as this was the system used by Physio's when I did rehab. The chest strap is comfortable and when worn gives continuous heart rate monitoring. There are different models available but I see Amazon has the Polar FT1 & Chest strap for £99.90. Not cheap I know but chest strap monitors are more expensive but are thought to be more reliable than wrist strap only.

Hi Nathan, Thanks for your reply. I think I'm going to go with the Wahoo tickr as it fits my budget and has good reviews.
