Cardioversion

Good morning. I'm new to this, and didn't expect to find myself here tbh, but here I am. I'm after some advice, as the wife of someone that had a cardioversion on Friday evening. It was a complete success and he came home with no medication, great BP, no sign of any heart problems and a normal heart rate, but the physiological effects have been huge. He feels he's walking around waiting to have a heart attack, and every twinge or pain is a sign that he is. Any advice would be very welcome. Thanks

Hi ! I think I can understand how your husband feels. Over the past 25 + years I have had 19 direct current cardioversions (DCCV s) which were all successful in returning me to normal sinus rhythm (nsr) . (These were all performed as ' emergency in that I did not have to go on a waiting list)

After each one , although I felt a great sense of relief and well being to be back in a normal rhythm, for a week or so afterwards I felt that I would surely revert back to my irregular heart rate ( or worse!) and was highly tuned in to my heart!! This feeling eventually disappeared I'm pleased to say.

I do hope that your husband will soon be able to 'tune out 'and just be thankful that his DCCV was a success.

Best wishes

Sandra
