myocarditis recovery and indigestion

Hi All - i am a new entrant to the community. I was diagnosed with a severe case of viral myocarditis in july and am now 3 months into recovery. My angiogram showed no sign of heart disease - so I am not on any medication at all - just told to ride out the virus and rest up., hoping it will clear up over time. Whilst the damage to the heart caused by the infaction i suffered due to the condition seems to be healing - I am still experiencing a fair amount of discomfort across the chest and , particularly, in the centre of the chest and rib cage together with , recently, a lot of reflux. I am trying to determine whether reflux/indigestion is a common side effect of recovery from myocarditis and , if so, keen to hear experiences as to how to combat it. Sometimes i think that if i can make the indigestion go away then i will be pain free. Thoughts and experiences will be appreciated.

Hello ranier :) I didn’t experience reflux from my myocarditis but I do get it from another condition; there’s lots of things you can try - adjusting your diet to avoid trigger foods (eg alcohol, caffeine, spicy foods etc) eating earlier, propping up your bed so your head is higher, over the counter medications like milk of magnesia or gaviscon, and if you’re still suffering your GP can prescribe things like omeprazole or esomeprazole (not for long term use, also can make digestion a bit dicey) or ranitidine. Hope this helps and fingers crossed for a speedy recovery but be patient :) it took me 7 months to return to my life!

Thanks for the response Bear - really appreciated. I am doing just as you suggest though can't bring myself to kick the caffeine. Perhaps its time! I have seen from your other posts that patience is probably the key here - frustrating as it is. Great to hear that you have now returned to some sense of normality your end.

Hi Ranieri,

I was diagnosed with myocarditis only 2 months ago and was told the same in regards to the virus. Rest is key to recovery as within 3 weeks of diagnosis I went back to work and relapsed, I am 19 and have never had trouble I just pushed myself too hard too quick.

In regards to pain I usually get some here and there on the lower left of my chest but it is slowly fading as time goes.

Wish you all the best on the long journey ahead.
