Hi I was diagnosed with suspected myocarditis a month ago (still waiting on MRI) and on release from hospital I was given 0 help or guidance from my cardiologist on how I would feel, how long it would take to get better, medication, after effects, anything really, anyone out there that can help?

Hi

I had Myocarditis a few years ago was discharged from hospital after 5 days still feeling dizzy short of breath & in pain. I felt in total shock as had been very fit & well until a few weeks proir when caught flu (thats what caused mine). Like you I felt very much alone didnt know anything about the condition wish I would have known about this site back then. Anyway I took Ramapril, Losartan & another drug I cant remember for about 12 months but it took another good 6 months before I started feeling more like my old self. Unfortunately I caught flu again at the beginning of this year & suffered with Pericarditis (still having effects from this short of breath etc) which Im told will probably reoccur each time I get flu but Im told its only a very small percentage that have long term effects so please dont think this will be you. Please ask if there is anything else you would like to know & hope your feeling much better soon xxx

Thanks for the reply it’s just difficult as you know going from an active person to basically being house bound, work asking the questions “how are you, when are you coming back” family worrying not knowing what to do, to top it off me and my partner got engaged a week before this happened and looks like getting married in December like she wants is not going to happen. The physical pain is bearable but the emotional and psychological changes are the most difficult, being told what your limits are rather than being in control. I suppose people just need to stay positive and hope they are in the small percentage that pull out of it within a few months

Yes hard as it is try stay positive I think my recovery took longer because I became very low & started to suffer with anxiety. Keep talking albiet to your family, Gp or on here it helps.

Take Care x
