Right now I do the Alexander Technique. Not sure that falls under your Therapist header, so chose other.

Hi Clarrisa

I'm really interested in this technique, when you can spare the time, I'd love to know more.

What I know about the Alexander Technique is F.M. Alexander developed it trying to resolve his own difficulties performing. I believe he experienced voice problems on stage due to stress. He developed awareness of the ways he was carrying stress & mastered ways to release it.

This took place in Australia. He was encouraged to travel to England & share his technique with the world. So he did & opened a school in the U.K. From there the world eventually was trained in his technique.

Most people are said to carry their stress in their shoulder/neck area. This alters the alignment of the head & consequently the spine. This results in one expending far more energy than required, to perform even simple activities of daily living. Further, one also has reduced their full lung capacity when they are out of alignment.

An Alexander Instructor will help one locate where they are carrying stress in their body, & help them gain awareness of it & prevention. There is a lot of excellent books & information available on Alexander Technique (including by the founder).

In my opinion it really is a manual hands on technique. Although Zoom classes during the pandemic can get one started. Like anything else the abilities of instructors vary. Some prior dancers have studied is technique. Some of them have gone on to become Physical Therapists as well. There are some extremely gifted instructors out there.

At the moment nowhere. And it’s a struggle as with lockdown I have more time and I feel some days I’m grieving like the early days all over again even having nightmares. (I’m sure this is common right now).

Hi Will2015abc

I so sorry you're struggling x {{{hugs}}} and I agree, I think the lockdown has triggered these symptoms, it's so difficult when we're penned in like this.

Always here for you
