How long should I wait to see someone about STI testing after unprotected sex? It's been one day and I think I have minor symptoms.

Dear eldotsie,

If you have symptoms it's worth getting tested right away, although would be unusual to show signs so soon after sex.

We recommend a repeat test after 2 weeks for gonorrhoea and chlamydia and 6-12wks after for HIV and syphilis.

Also you don't say whether you are make or female and the kind of sex you have had. If you are female you may need to think about emergency contraception. Also, if you have had sex with someone at high risk of HIV (eg gay men, people from African countries) you may need to think about PEP (post exposure prophylaxis).

Kind regards.
