Easy supermarket slots!!!

Hi,

I finally got my priority booking for supermarket slots today but before I did I was desperate to find delivery slots. Then I found this app - it either notifies you when a slot becomes available in any nearby supermarkets you’ve added to your account (I managed to get it to add Tesco, Iceland and Asda) so you can grab it, or - and this is the brilliant bit, if you subscribe for 99p a week it automatically grabs the earliest available slot (within limits you can set if you want specific days/times) and adds it to your supermarket account! Then you have the usual 2 hrs to shop & check out! It was a lifesaver for me and I thought it might help people here. (I’m nothing to do with the app - I just found it on the App Store! I don’t know if you can get it for android but thought I’d tell you all!) look on the App Store for DeliveryFinderUK. :-)

Interesting! And I have now downloaded the app. Not for me quite yet as we are muddling by, but if I do get completely stuck it is good to know it is there.

There's also a new website that was advertised via our local paper. You tap in your postcode and it runs a search for any slots from Asda, Waitrose, Tesco & Iceland. You don't have to download anything/add your email to just see what's available: shoppingslot.co.uk

the difficulty in getting slots probably differs between areas. all ive done is register as extremely vulnerable on the government website then you could register for waitrose, iceland, morrisons, sainsburys, tesco's, asda.

And just keep logging in to all of them throughout the day and if you see a slot in the future (even if it's not this or next week) then chuck a load of shopping in to save it and edit it closer to the time. If you find a better slot with a different supermarket then cancel the first one and get the second.

weve managed to get about one a week, but availability really is still very much hit and miss.

I live rural and am self shielding due to asthma and age. My BIGGEST worry each week is if I will find and get a delivery slot. It’s becoming really stressful.

I have registered at Sainsbury’s and Tesco as vulnerable but it makes little difference. I spend a lot of time looking for slots.

Huge thanks for sharing. My sister has had no success in securing a delivery slot so I told her about the App you recommended...it worked. Got a delivery slot so quickly! Have shared it with my elderly aunt too - just hope she can work out how to download & use the App.

You're so welcome - I'm really glad it helped - it was a lifesaver for me too! :-)

There is a phone number for Tesco’s look on google. Sainsbury’s did have a phone number I think it’s 08009534988 but it may have changed.( the only likely one i could find on my phone. 😳

I have frankly given up on Sainsbury’s. I have had a text to say I get priority slots but unable to get one. So far Tesco’s have been reliable.

Trying to get delivery slots has been, for me, the most stressful thing about this lockdown. I can’t look on the Sainsbury’s site several times a day hoping. Tesco lets me book one slot a week.

Have you tried the app, Oldandgray? If you can't work out how to do it there is the website that also finds you slots automatically that GFloss also suggested, shoppingslot.co.uk. I know the technology can be daunting sometimes but these apps/sites make it so easy to book - maybe you could get someone to help you set it up by talking you through it - if you do set it up properly then the app will book slots for you - you don't even have to go on the supermarket's website until the app tells you you have a delivery booked!

Otherwise see my other post on your first comment about registering with gov.uk....

Hope you can get sorted v soon,

Cally :-)

Thank you Cathy and your kind suggestions. I am, for an oldie, very technologically able and have had texts from Sainsbury’s that I am on their vulnerable list. I use an iPhone, iPad, and iPad mini. Unfortunately living very remotely and in an area with the highest over 65 population slots are at a premium. We are also 16 miles in any direction from large supermarkets that support deliveries.

I will complete the Gov.uk form again and see if I am third time lucky.

Thank you for your suggestion.

Just in case it's helpful - I registered 3 times on .gov.uk over about 2-3 weeks and didn't hear a thing from them. I then read on here that you have to actually say you have no way of getting food. Someone else said the opposite so I'm not sure what's true, but in desperation I filled out the form a 4th time but this time said I didn't have anyone to help with food and needed help. Within about 2-3 days I got my first email from Iceland telling me they were giving me priority booking and now 3 days later have emails from Asda and Sainsbury's as well, and I just booked my first priority slot with Sainsburys. The problem was that a food box also arrived on my doorstep the day after I re-registered on the .gov.uk website saying I had no food. I felt awful because I'd managed to get a slot with the app the night before so was actually ok (though I'd been running out before then). I've tried to give away as much as I can to my elderly neighbours (or my husband has, I'm isolating!) but I still feel really bad. The gov really need to make the form more specific for people who just really need a priority booking slot, not food boxes!!!! But you could try re-doing the .gov.uk form and saying you have noone to help with food (if you haven't already) if you're desperate....

Received email from ASDA so logged on booked order for next Friday and it then allowed us to reserve a slot for following Fridays 😊

I am sorry you’re so geographically isolated - that’s really hard...I know when I was running low even just on fresh foods I felt the anxiety. I guess it will be really different there also because of being rural, but here the local council is coordinating support too - I got a call from them after I’d been checked out in hospital with symptoms then discharged asking if there was anything I needed and if I could get food ok...you could always try ringing your council (forgive me if you’ve already done so!). My last suggestion would be to check on Facebook (brilliant to hear you’re keeping up with the tech - it can be so useful!) for your local Covid support group - there’s now a network of them (search for “Covid 19 Mutual Aid” and try it with your local authority name in front too - ours is called “North Tyneside Covid 19 Mutual Aid”). Then you can contact them to ask for help with shopping.

I know it’s possible you just don’t have these groups near you because you’re so rural but maybe these might be options ...keeping fingers and toes crossed for you - I hate that people have to worry about food as well as everything else....😕
