Improving your asthma control is the key. Also, it depends whether it can be improved. What is it and what do you think it should be?

Hello srsjain I think a lot can be done to improve peak flow. Deep breathing exercises can improve breathing and peak flow. Consult with your medical doctor before you try them. I've been doing the Peaceful Warrior Workout for about 12 years. It really made a difference. Go to PeacefulWarrior.com. It only takes a few minutes a day. Another good deep breathing exercise is the Sun Salutations. It is a form of yoga. I do it for 10 minutes a day. Go to lifespa.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/05/yoga-sun-salutations.pdf to find out how to do this. Swimming in warm water can improve peak flow. So can a hot shower. I also use a device called PowerLung and this helps too. It strengthens the diaphragm muscles. Go to PowerLung.com. I've also noticed that the albuterol sulfate inhaler I take can improve peak flow.

To get more details on all of this you can go to amazon.com to access my book, "Running with Asthma: An Asthmatic Runner's Memoir."

Wishing you good breathing,

John Terry McConnell
