I am looking to relocate from the Lan... - Lung Conditions C...
I am looking to relocate from the Landlocked midlands to somewhere near the sea, perhaps Devon. Has anyone got health related advice please?
Health services are very good in the Bounemouth area and the weather tends to be better than either further east or west.
Have as much help as possible with moving its only when packing everything into containers we come to realize the amount of clutter that has built up over the years.
Finding a property with easy access (flat and no steps) that is easily maintained (large garden could become a problem) avoid stairs as many of us find these almost impossible.
If you have health probs,,,,,,it is worth checking out hospitals,,in that area for the clinics they have...Also transport links for hospitals, shopping, doctors,,ect ect..and local crime rates..if you have a lung disease heavy industry is something to be aware of,,,,lots of fumes..............
It's better air on the south coast. You'll be surprised at the difference it makes breathing wise.
I live very close to the south coast, although lovely it does get very very damp all through the winter which plays havoc with my chest.

I live about 150m uphill from the sea on the south coast, it's fab - go for it

We moved from the Midlands 2 years ago to a small village in Somerset, 10 miles from the coast. The move itself I planned like a military manoevre, each day we would clear one room of clutter and pack away nearly eveything, the last week we had to eat out every day. On the day of the move it was thick snow but the removal men were brilliant, arrived at 8:00am and they were waiting at our new flat when we arrived. Our main reason for moving was the bad air quality where we lived and, after 2 years, hubby's latest breathing tests show a slight improvement. So far us it has been the best thing we have ever done. Hope it goes well for you
I am in Exmouth, great town, good doctors and medical services, the town centre is nearly all flat as is the sea front, but like all seaside towns most of the houses are built on the hillsides away from the sea which means big hills. Parking can be a major issue, there are eight bays in the town, and a large disabled population,
It took us ages to choose the right house to live in, the four steps up to the door look fine when you have a "better day" but on a bad day they can look like mountains, There is so much to think about when you know your health is deteriorating.
Having said that to be able to go down to the seafront and walk or use my scooter is wonderful always makes me feel better.
I don't know about Devon but we have excellent healthcare in Poole/Bournemouth, Poole has some flatter areas than B'mouth which make it easier for walking with COPD. We moved to Poole six years ago and wouldn't go anywhere else.
