Hi

If you have mobility or care needs then yes you can claim DLA.

Beware the cutoff point is April 8th 2013, when it will change to PIP.

There is one less component to PIP.

It seems it is more difficult to succeed with a PIP claim than it is with DLA.

My claim including a reconsideration only took 14 weeks that was October 2011.

But as others will tell you claims can take much longer, with appeals longer still.

At this moment an extra 4000 claims have been submitted, trying to beat the April dedline.

Seek help to complete a claim form to ensure all you details are recorded .if you have had any previous medicals, which may help you, ask for a copy.

Any test results will also help, spirometer is very usefull. ( that is what I used to have the decision ruled in my favour)

Good luck.

Hi Smokeyjoe

You should be able to claim even if you are still working. I did when I was working full time - I just couldn't walk very far either which also seems to a be criteria. It is useful to keep your gp/respiratory consultant/nurse in the loop as to how you are so that if they are asked for an opinion or letter, they singing from the same hymn sheet as it were!

Do get help with completing it either CAB or BLF helpline, welfare rights etc.

Good luck

I have just put in a renewal claim for DLA and I work 3 days per week. Is about how condition affects you. Would advise you get claim in before April and move to PIP. Also get any doctor letters together and send with claim form.

I agree. DLA is a stand alone benefit. It can be claimed whether you are working or not. You could be working full time and still claim it. Its about how the condition affects you not about whether you are still fit enough to work. Its usually not means tested and doesn't affect any other benefits you may be getting. And you don't pay tax on it. Also getting DLA can mean being entitled to a raft of other benefits ie help with heating etc.

Hope this helps.
