We had not planned much, just a trip to a country pub, early doors. We left here at 6.40, were there for 7, got served pretty quickly, and were back home for 8.40. That was after a quick pop-by Tesco for some mince too. Linda, my wife was driving, and paying

I've had a steak in ale pie with proper chips, she had a cannon of lamb with cheese and chive mash. I also had a pint of the ale to check the quality

We managed to pick up a pudding on the way back too, a sticky toffee sponge, to which we added custard. Cheaper than having a tiny bit of pud at the pub.

Still on this evening's menu are two bottles of beer and some wine for Linda to help celebrate.

We've been together 17 years today, married for 13 of those. We married on the same date we originally met, makes it easier to remember the anniversaries that way

Of course, going out early meant we were back early too. Sort of spoiled the surprise that libby7827 set up, except I saw the notification email first

I even managed to answer all the questions before 9

I forgot to mention that the beer in the pub wasn't that good. Normally I'd try and have 2-3 pints of a good one while I was out, and this particular pub has usually been good as they have hand-pulled beer. Tonight wasn't a good night, only one beer on and it was near the end of the barrel. The food was good though.

I lived in a pub for 6 years, 9 hand pumps, so I got to know what various tastes mean - green, meaning too new, not settled enough - soapy, someone didn't rinse the line out after cleaning it - stale, had been on too long and was going off - near the end, pulling little bits of sediment through and looking cloudy.

So, I didn't really enjoy it. Shame, as I like Black Sheep Bitter normally. When we got home I had a bottle of the same beer, and it was much nicer. But, we had had the pudding and that reacted with the beer, so I didn't have any more.

I've taken a break from the computer to watch a bit of TV since I got in. We've loads of stuff recorded and don't get round to watching, so we've cleared 3 episodes of 'Person of Interest' off the disc tonight. Just finishing off my bits and pieces, like bedtime tablets and letting the dog out, then heading for bed.
