A lady across the road got a wetroom. She was aged 95. I think you could email or ring social services. I had a prompt response but then there is a wait. Maybe you could get you doctor to help - a letter perhaps. Read all your letters - dont feel alone. Come on the forum for a jaw.
Hi thankls bit down at moment copd nurse just left coughing a lot he says no infection a well

Hi, yes I had a wet room put in my previous property. Had an assessment about 2 weeks after the phone call and the work completed just a few weeks after that. It was very simple.
I do have other health problems other than COPD though so no idea what counts or not although Social Services OT dept were very friendly and helpful all the way through.
Have to say though the cleaning of the wet room was a relentless, hard task!
Good luck.
Mike

Hello, not being able to use a bath and having a wash at the sink is exhausting. If it's your own property then go directly to Social Services. If you are in local authority housing then you should speak to your tenancy management department. In both cases they should send in an assesment nurse who will listen to your experiences and ask you to do a couple of things to assess your mobility. They will then make a decision on your need for a shower. If you are refused they must tell you why and you should be able to appeal that decision. When I moved here there was an oversized shower tray that was described as a bath!! I too had fallen trying to use a bath and had given up years ago and had good friends that i could visit and have a shower at thier homes once a week. The strain on the lungs lifting yourself in and out of a bath was too much for me. I asked then if I could have a shower put in and my tenancy officer called in Social Services. I was approved and it was done about two weeks later. Other people can be offered a bath chair or similar and that may help you. Whatever they suggest please get the grab handles put in, essential!! I hope you get this resolved, I know what a misery it can be. Good Luck. Jane.
With the recent cuts in funding it is getting more difficult to be assessed as having a great enough need for a wetroom but it is certainly worth asking Adult Services to send out an assessor.
My wife has a form of Motor Neuron Disease and is a wheelchair user. She was assessed by Adult Services as having sufficient need for not only a wetroom but also a Gerberit toilet (she is doubly incontinent and the toilet washes and dries her). From the time of assessment to applying for funding, to agreeing to the schedule of works, to completion of works took 1 year and it has only recently been completed. It is a godsend and well worth the wait so if you can get the funding it will make so much difference to your life. Wishing you the best of luck.
