I see a poll for living allowance, how is it done?
My advice would be to send as much evidence as possible with your application, for example a letter from your consultant, results of breathing tests, etc. And it can pay to get help with the form filling from the CAB or similar. Some get a social worker or nurse to help. The important thing is to ensure that an acccurate picture of your worst days is given, so don't be too optimistic in your replies.
It seems that many applications are turned down but then a lot of them are allowed on appeal, so don't give up too easily. Good luck.
Get a copy of the DLA desriptors, Go through each descriptor and see which apply to you. e.g. How far you can walk without breathlessnes, Whether you can cook on a stove due to heat and steam affecting your breathing etc.
Go through the claim form using the wording from the descriptors as much as possible. If you get CAB to help you fill out the form they are more likely to help you if and when an appeal is needed.
I would also say be honest. Its no good saying you can only walk 50 meters if you can do 150 meters, unless you like seeing your face on the front page of the papers.
Hi
Give the BLF Helpline a call on 03000 030 555 and speak to one of the benefit advisers - they can tell you all you need.

Yes do, I rang them and they were so very helpful in giving me advice on how to fill in forms for DLS. I have ben refused it once but was told by my GP to apply! Lets hope I'm successful this time as I have gorprogressively worse in just 4 months, altho I do have good days, well if thats what you can call them. I'm still working, heaven knows how some days and employers are not aware of how this terrible illness affects us. Off sick at present 3rd week due to exerberation of COPD,hopefully on the mend now. Every day is different as you all will know, be happy folks, always someone worse off than we are, that's how I look at life now.
You could always contact DIAL I did and they believe I have a good case for DLA and will be filling in the forms for me.. I tried on my own in 2010 was denied, went to tribunal was winning my case up until they adjourned it, when I went back after adjounment I sat infront of 3 different people to the first who never looked at the first part ajournment and throw it out..
I'll suggest contacting your local authority's Benefit Advisor
I took this step and was awarded the higher rate mobility component and the middle rate care component on the first application
