Hi yes I tried them a while ago to try and prevent infections, was to take them 3 times a week. I found they gave me acid reflux/indegestion so they had to change them to Clarithromycin 3 times a week same type of medication but it doesn't give me acid problems Val

He is on a dose of 500mg.He is also on another antibiotic (begining with c?)for 4 weeks (2 in the morning and 2 at night)and steroids .He has been on amoxicillin for the last 2 weeks and steroids, but they have made no difference to his chest infection!

May be the different antibiotic's will help, at the beginning of the year I ended up on 3 different lots of antibiotic's and steroids before it cleared up my chest infection hope these new one's help. Val

I take prophylactic clarithromycin daily to prevent infections and also because they help reduce inflammation. During an exacerbation other antibiotics are added typically for me is one called co-moxiclav. Maybe you should try and get a sputum sample to the doctors so it can be analysed, to be sure he is on the right antibiotic for the infection. Many times after i have had a sputum sample looked at i have required hospital admission for iv antiobiotics as i grow Pseudomonas. Hope that helps and best wishes for a speedy recovery.

Yes I think he should do a sputum sample as well , the nurse said if he's still bad in 2 weeks to send one in but I will get him to do one this week and get it sent in . Thanks .

My dad takes azithromycin 3 times a week. Initially they helped him, however, not sure how effective they are now as he gets frequent exacerbations.
