I did a bit more “looking” about this. There are one or two small research studies which suggest it could be a treatment in asthma. Also, the FDA approved a hand held device which patients can use themselves in the treatment of people with asthma who had covid with good results. ( I can’t remember the name of the device but it was originally authorised as a treatment for migraine. It costs around £350. ) Shame they don’t give them out on the nhs

That certainly is encouraging news, thanks for posting the link. I sure hope the treatment is widely available soon, if it proves to be safe.

remember reading a similar report about this procedure a few years ago. Undertaken in the U,S by the same specialist for a woman with severe Asthma but emphesema was not mentioned, Nothing seems to have come of it so far. Let’s hope things are moving on if this is a recent report

This is from a press release 11 April 2016. Like other promising treatments it has disappeared into oblivion. Probably shouldn’t have posed a threat to the use of drugs. Make of that what you will.

I hadn’t noticed the date, but I have done a bit of follow up. The study mentioned above has completed

respiratory-research.biomed...

They are now on larger trials having established the procedure as safe -airflow 3, which is a 6 year study registered in 2019, so there is hope yet😁

Well done chook for finding that. I am at the doctors again tomorrow for usual flare up of my copd and will ask if she knows about it. Cracking darts 😉👍

Thanks very much for the information. I need help with my breathing/COPD, so this new method can be potentially very useful.

How come us people with lung disease are not informed by our GP practice that there are other treatments and trials going on, and whether we would be interested in taking part. I feel our practice knows very little about lung disease. I'm just given the same treatments each time. They don't seem to be bothered that I cannot blow the spirometer. I think we are just a burden on the system. I feel we should be better informed. I don't see a consultant because I'm not at that stage yet.

Plus the state if the NHS at the moment we've got no chance.
