Bronchiectasis .. Another all night session doing chest clearance.. fed up now .. it’s mostly froth .. is that normal?

only finished ciprofloxacin 2.5 weeks ago and was feeling absolutely fine apart from more frothy mucus (with yellow streaks/ puddles) …when doing my daily clearance ..sorry for description btw

…Then spent all of last night just bringing up froth.. No sleep.. feed up …seem to be taking 2 steps forward and 5 back😔

Does this happen to any one else?

thanks for reply Patk1 .. reassuring to know it happens to other bronchs…

Don’t take carbocysteine .. didn’t agree with me but I do take a daily NAC supplement

Thanks for the tip.. I’ll leave that off for a while👍…and send a sample in

Don’t like it when things change 😬.. I especially if it entails losing a night sleep!

Plus…would like to put it out there…

Can you do too much clearance? Seems my time spent is increasing.. wondering if you could overstimulate the lungs to produce more?…just a thought😬

Yes I'd knock it off for few days,as that may b liquifying it down, too much.personally,I'm very aware of mucous with rattling+ plugging.i do 2 dedicated sessions then ea cpl hrs get it up,quickly, also after eating,as it stimulates mucous in my airways too.if u can,try to have a cut off point - u have to have life beyond clearance.fit it in rather than being controlled by it.its hard.hope ths helps x

If its all getting too much take antihistamine to dry it up and give yourself a break. Sounds like you have enough to cope with at the moment x

Not sure if it was coincidental or not..🙄

hi there Isb 1 I am having the same problem with loads of frothy mucous too. I have had an awful bad chest infection 3 lots of antibiotics and those horrible steroids. 3 days off of them and now I have so much mucous white and frothy. I have never heard of taking antihistamines before. Happy to have a gol what do you recommend thanks? X

Hi Izb1 Thanks for sharing about the antihistamines I think I will ask the Pharmacy . I have spoken at last to my Respiratory Nurse this afternoon and because I am 3 days off the steroids she is suggesting the reason I am producing all this mucous is because I have come off of them too soon and I may have to start again on a low dose? That is not good news for me as I really do not get on with them.

I am wondering if Phill1 has just come off of them too? I had taken 2/3 lots of antibiotics and steroids since February and thought I was getting better . I had slowly tapered off of the steroids so cannot believe why I am experiencing like yourself all this heavy excess mucous. It woke me up last night too and exhausting!

Best wishes to you both x

Pollen been high of late, mainly tree and grass pollen, could be adding to it.also if yr on carbocysteine or nacys may be worth having few days off? It can over liuify mucous at times.id talk to yr respiratory nurse or pharmacist

hi there yes I was wondering about the pollen being high too. My recovery this time from my chest infection has been very slow . I have taken your advice and stopped the carbo last night and today and I have noticed a definite change in the mucous production area! Chest feels a bit sore still though so praying I do not have to take those devil pills again!

Thanks so much for the advice

Hi

I’ve not ever had to use steroids so can’t answer that one ..

However stopped my NAC supplement 2 days ago and seems to have improved

Plus.. Randomly Tried a new way of my Autogenic Drainage.. I’m using just the mouthpiece from my aerobika to breath out from.. Breath in.. hold for a few seconds. Pop in the mouthpiece. ..breath out …feel like I’ve shifted 2 weeks worth of mucus. It’s all about keeping your glottis open…!

May work for others too…just thought I’d mention it 🤞

Steroids have such a bad effect on your body its best to avoid thmn if you can , dont get me wrong they are good at reducing infammation but sometimes really are best to avoid x

yes I am with you on the steroids being not good for our bodies. I was so jubilant when I took that last one tapering down and thought job done but my chest still hurting . I am seeing my nurse face to face on Tuesday so hoping she will say no more but I have a horrible feeling!, They actually make me feel really I’ll too and sometimes hard to know if it’s the steroids or the chest infection?
