Hi my physio nurse recommended that I should do clearance 2/3 time's a day for excess mucus

I have forgotten how to do clearance since I was out on Nacsys effervescent tablets. The coughing they produce is tiring and would like to try the breathing exercise again.

I take nacsys and use an acapella device every day but its hard not to over cough and cause pain or bouts of excessive pressure on your lungs.i do walk everyday for 15 mins and breathe better

Hi Kenta I have got Bronchiectasis as well. I am having an episode at present and I am working hard at keeping the mucous off of my chest. Yes I am doing a very long session of clearing first thing in the morning lunchtime and then early evening. I do the circle of breathing. 4 or 5 deep breaths and then huffed out. I take my carbo which thins the mucous down and also my specialist sent me a flutterbe which has a pipe type mechanism with a ball bearing in to vibrate my breath to loosen the mucous which I use too. I have had to learn all this myself and also from this site which has been SO helpful.

Hope that helps and Best wishes to you. Spring is in the air so surely we should start to feel better x

I really can’t wait for Spring. Your regime sounds a bit like mine at least 3 times a day huffing and fluttering and laying down on the bed with head hanging over for the coughing. All very tiring! Carbo upped to 3 x day and I spend time blowing up balloons for lung exercise! I am getting really fed up now as this exacerbation started beginning December! Good luck!

I do two 30-40minute sessions a day, but if I’ve got an infection I add in a lunchtime one. The physios at the Brompton say I should only do 20-30mins and get any extra lung clearance from exercise, but I just can’t clear the sputum in that time 🤷‍♀️

I agree Eleanor. I do the same as you, have done daily for 68 years, more when I get an infection. Tedious but necessary. Best wishes Diane 😊

As a retired physio (with bronchiectasis) I'd say 3 times a day. 1st thing in the morning, at bed time and half way in between. If going anywhere eg cinema - I'd clear my chest before I went to save having to cough too much when out.

I wish I could clear 3x a day. I have to do mine between about 2 and 4pm otherwise it is near impossible to get rid of. This can be really inconvenient if out!
