Hi, a worrying situation for you, I would be frightened too. I wondered if you might get more information and support if you put this post on the British Heart Foundation forum where there are likely to be members who have undergone this operation. Best wishes to you.

My husband doesn't have a lung condition, but thought it may help you to know that he had an aortic valve replaced by the TAVI procedure last November and it's given him a new lease of life!

He'll be 80 in August. He has no memory of the procedure being done so presumably he had a general anaesthetic. My daughter-in-law and I went to collect him the following day and suddenly spotted him marching up the hill towards us pulling his suitcase on wheels behind him! He then jumped into the car as though nothing had been done to him. The only painkillers he needed were normal paracetamol and the predicted large bruise on his leg (from where they go into the blood vessel in the groin) never materialised.

Reg had his op done at the Royal Sussex County Hospital in Brighton by Mr Hildick-Smith and his team. I have nothing but praise them for what they all did and the way he told me they looked after him post op.

If you haven't already done so, why not have a look at the BHF forum on HU. You may well find others on there who have had the same experience as you have and may be able to offer some words of comfort and/or advice.

Meanwhile, if you'd like to ask my husband anything about the TAVI procedure, message me and I'll ask him for you.

All the best,

xx Moy

Hello Mojo,

I know this is rather unnerving (lung transplant recipient here 😊👋) but this operation could give you a better quality of life, if not they (doctors) would not consider it . Ask many questions about it, it's much more frightening when you feel you are in the dark. It really helps I find. Sending you very best wishes.
