Hello ken4sully,
Thank you for your question.
If you would like advice about managing your emphysema, you can call us at the helpline on 03000 030 555 and we will be happy to help.
It may be best to have wedge pillows in bed to keep your chest elevated so you are not laying flat as this stops the mucus from laying on your chest during the night.
We have lots of information on emphysema under our COPD info here which may be useful:- blf.org.uk/support-for-you/...
I hope this helps.
Take care,
Marie
Hi ken4sully. I think that MarieBLF is offering very good advice when she says that it will build up if you lie flat. I have emphysema and don't have a problem with mucous but I do sleep well propped up with pillows which makes breathing easier. Best wishes.
Hi Ken,
Great info from Maria.
You might want to ask your doctor to prescribe carbocistein or other mucolytic med also you will need to make sure you are always well hydrated, drink plenty of water so the mucus is more easily coughed up.
Do give the helpline a call.
Best wishes
BK
