First thing in a morning I have been bringing up brown coloured sputum but the rest of the day it is clear I wonder if anyone else has experienced this

Iget yellow or green sputum in morning and a benging headache.

I don`t mind the sputum so much, the the headache comes without even being out on the bash the night before........ANNOYING OR WHAT...Didn`t even get the enjoyment of rolling round the floor or making an ass of myself!!!!

OH,PS I have severe emphysema and Bronchiectasis and T-total

I wonder if you are still smoking or in the process of giving up smoking - this symptom would be connected with smoking stopping smoking process.

Otherwise I wouldn't know, brown colour without any other discoloration later in the day could be you are coughing up old blood, maybe check in with your doctor.

If the discolouration is to do with lung infection you would be having other symptoms.

I gave up smoking 3yrs ago i smoked a pipe but what I cannot understand I only get it first thing then my mucus is clear Thanks for your reply

Hi tissot I find the colour of my sputum first thing in the morning can very much depend what I was eating or drinking the night before When I drink red wine my sputum can be dark for example Take care xxx

Thanks that could be the case I always have a drop of whiskey

My sputum is brown in mornings, could be tea if you drink it first thing.
